Year Up’s mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by ensuring that young adults gain the skills, experiences, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through careers and higher education.
Year Up is a national 501(c)3 workforce development organization committed to ensuring equitable access to economic opportunity, education, and justice for all young adults—no matter their background, income, or zip code. Employers face a growing need for talent, yet there are millions of talented young adults being overlooked, and these inequities only further perpetuate the opportunity gap that exists in our country—a gap that Year Up is determined and positioned to close.
Year Up achieves its mission through three interconnected strategies: direct service for students and alumni, empowering others to serve and support young adults, and changing systems that perpetuate the Opportunity Divide. Year Up’s intensive training program utilizes a high expectations, high support model where students learn in-demand technical and professional skills and apply them during a corporate internship. Ninety percent of Year Up graduates are employed and/or enrolled in postsecondary education within four months of program completion, and employed graduates earn an average starting salary of $42,000 per year.

The FAO Schwarz Fellow will engage directly with Year Up students and alumni.
The Fellowship is a two-year commitment that pays $30,000/year plus a $2,000 bonus at the end of the second year. Benefits include professional development, health insurance and annual subway passes.
The FAO Schwarz Fellow will interact with students as an advisor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in creating and sustaining a positive educational environment, with trust among students and staff.
Be an active member of a Learning Community of around 40 students and 10 staff members.
Learn and deliver core elements of the program and support students and staff as necessary.
Participate in and co-facilitate interactive group exercises that foster experiential learning.
Provide students with meaningful training sessions to prepare them for successful careers.
Advise and mentor a small team of students.
The FAO Schwarz Fellow will focus on enhancing and improving the strategies and methods we use for analyzing, retaining and engaging our current students and alumni.
Assist in evaluating current retention strategies to ensure 83%+ of young adults admitted into the program persist into internships and 73%+ graduate.
Create data systems and reports to track alumni information to provide accurate, up-to-date contact, work, and salary records.
Work with Site Director and Director of Program to ensure to ensure effective tracking and coordination of all program events and community service engagements across all YUNY/NJ site.
Applicants must be college seniors at accredited four-year colleges or universities at the time of application and be eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the two-year Fellowship.
